W7VI, Steve

The testing site for my novice exam in 1949, was at a railroad station. As a junior in high school, I earned the Extra Class license. This Amateur inspiration lead to learning high speed American and International Morse Code with the U.S. Army in Germany, and studying applied physics later in college.

Westinghouse hired me right out of college and I hung on for 40 years. Traveling was required and soon a Ten Tec QRP radio and a vibroplex straight key found their way into my suitcase.

With the understanding and support of my wife, I have earned DXCC mobile cw and several first places in ARRL Sweepstakes on a variety of modes.

My biggest thrill was working friends in Moscow, Idaho from Macao, China, operating 5 watts mobile with a Texas Bug Catcher.

A new Yaesu FTDX 9000MP may be in the near future to take a place next to the Vibroplex bug, racer and straight key. I hope to meet more of you on the air.
